sunburnDid you forget to apply sunscreen on your skin and after having fun outside on a sunny day, you realized that you got baked.  You can’t sit, stand or lie down comfortably.  Don’t worry there are various effective natural sunburn remedies that can help relieve you of sunburn with no side effects, great effectiveness and at a negligible cost.  However always remember that the best way to protect your skin from the sun at the beach and at home is to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or above, avoid going outside during midday sun, wearing sun-protective clothing such as hats with broad brims, sunglasses.  I wrote about natural tips to treat sun tanning and in this article I would like to enlighten you with natural tips to treat sunburn.  

 

Natural home remedies to treat sunburns:

 

green-teaTea: Tea is a great natural homemade remedy for various health issues and it does magic with sunburns.  Prepare herbal or black tea, cool it, and use a soft cloth to apply it on your sunburns. You will be amazed to the results on ease of your pain.

 

Drink plenty of fluids: Intake of water is necessary to keep your body hydrated, and to replace the water lost by the sunburn.  So, drink lot of water.

 

Apply cold water or ice:  Soak cloth with cold water or wrap cloth around ice and apply over the affected area to get relief from sunburn pain.

 

Use antibacterial soap: Wash the affected area with an antibacterial soap to prevent secondary infection.

 

baking-soda-and-cold-water-bathUse of baking soda:  Baking soda is very helpful for treating sunburned and itchy skin.  Add ½ a cup of baking soda to a lukewarm bath water and soak yourself in it for not more than 20 to 25 min.

Milk remedy: Milk is one of the known food remedy for sunburn.  The milk fat acts as a moisturizer and calms the skin.  Applying cotton or gauge dipped in milk to the burned area will provide relief.

 

Cucumber:  Cucumber not only provides fresh fragrance but also sooths skin during sunburn.  Slice the cucumber and put it on affected area.  You can also squeeze some cucumber juice and rub it on affected area. sunblock-natural-treatment

 

Aloe Vera:  If you can get natural aloe vera leaf, put it on the burn and cover the plant with medical tape or bandage.  This is one of the best remedy to tackle notorious sun burns.

 

Lemon juice: Squeeze a few lemons into cold water and apply to your skin.  It will disinfect the skin and help faster recovery from mild sunburn.

 

Oatmeal:  Add 2 cups of oatmeal in a bath water.  Soak yourself in the prepared water for about 30 minutes.

 

It is important for you to be aware of the sun burn and its severity. The natural sunburn tips will sooth your skin and hopefully take away most of the pain. Avoid any of the natural treatment if you are allergic to it.   It is advisable to be calm and patient as it takes time for sunburn to heal completely.  Damaged skin will be replaced by new, healthy skin that lies underneath.  .
