67 new cases of Dengue fever in Delhi drive total to 741

Commonwealth games are on horizon for Delhi and the spread of dengue fever has become a real concern for the health officials.  After a very hot summer, it has been raining regularly for past one month.  On top of that the preparation for common wealth games has left many sites like dug roads, an excellent source for collection of water and breeding of mosquitoes.  Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) reported 67 new cases of dengue that has made the total tally of dengue cases to 741 for this year.

Dr NK Yadav, MHO, MCD said that “The number of cases would only increase now. With sporadic rains, there is lot of breeding happening in various pockets of Delhi. A majority of cases are coming from south and central zone.”

Although, dengue has become alarming for MCD, but still there is one positive news, which is not many deaths have occurred due to dengue.  The city hospitals have been busy with dengue patients...

and most of the people have reported high grade fever and body ache. One of the senior officers working for National Vector Borne Disease Program (NVBDCP) said that “Thankfully, we have not had high mortality rate this year. It seems, the dengue strain prevalent this year is not very virulent.”

As preparation for common wealth games are in full swing be careful of the dengue fever in this rainy season.  If you feel feverish, better to consult your doctor than try to solve it by self medication.
