AgaMatrix developed iPhone support for blood glucose monitor

Steve Jobs recently quoted that future of technologies lies in handheld devices.  Apple has contributed greatly to innovation and popularity of handheld devices by developing iPhone.  I am sure you own or you have checked out iPhone 4 in a nearby Apple store.  There are countless companies, which are in a mad rush to develop applications for iPhone, in short called as apps.

AgaMatrix is maker of Jazz Meter, a popular blood glucose monitor.  Guess what, AgaMatrix is set to release a package so that you can connect your iPhone to your Jazz Meter.  The product called as WaveSense Direct Connect Cable, is still to get blessings from Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  AgaMatrix has taken a lead in making first-ever fully licenses medical device specifically designed to work with an iPhone.

The main features of WaveSense include (from medgadget):

Result Tracking:  Record glucose results, carb/insulin input, or a combination of both.

Notes: With the notes feature you can put high, low, or great numbers in context. If you take a little too much insulin and experience a low result you can note it. If you have a carb rich meal and go high you can note that. Create custom notes and better understand your glucose results.

Log Book: Review your results over time and find opportunities to improve your diabetes care.

Find patterns in a visual representation of your numbers over time

Email: If you ever need a second opinion on your numbers you can share them with your trusted health care team. You choose what gets sent to who and when.

Color Coding: The glucose score cards are color coded so you can easily see when you have had high or low results.

AgaMatrix demonstrated WaveSense at the ADA Conference expo and it can plug your Jazz meter directly into the iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.  The cable is slated to be available for sale from AgaMatrix’s website at “Apple standard pricing” of about $25 to $30, according to Joe Flaherty, Strategic Marketing Manager at AgaMatrix, Inc.

Flaherty said “We’ve been working with Apple for the last two years to make this happen. We’re very excited.”

If you are keen on getting your WaveSense product, just sign up at product page and receive an email as soon as product is launched.
