Check your eyes with your iPhone, iPad app

I visited eye doctor for annual eye exam check few weeks ago.  The eye exam includes reading through rows with letters of different size, which is known as Snellen eye chart.  The digital technology has really refined the eye chart with good variations of text, so that you don’t memorize the lines before being asked to test your eye.  An iPhone, iPad app, Eye Chart Pro (iTunes link) adds more fun, by bringing Snellen eye chart to your home or in your pocket.

Generally, in a clinic the eye chart screen is 10 feet from the patient.  The Eye Chart Pro offers the following:

  • the letters can be randomized
  • upgrade via an in-app purchase of $3.99 to a premium version which allows for smaller letters and testing from five feet
  • The non-premium version is free, although the App store currently has it labeled as a “Limited Offer”.

justify;">The app has gained popularity right after its release and has held #1 spot in medical app world from last more than two months.  In fact Eye Chart app made to the into UC Irvine medical school curriculum of iPad integration. If you have not tried it yet, go ahead download your copy and use it any number of times.  It’s not like the eye examination, which is free only once in a year.  Look forward to hear your experience regarding the app.
