October is the breast cancer awareness month and people have shown support on global level by wearing pink and rallies. Smart phones have prompted development of health apps and an iPhone app called Dr K’s Breast Checker, hit the market at the right time. The app was developed in consultation of breast health specialist and is intended to help women to become aware of breast cancer.
Who developed the app?
An Australian- based doctor, Dr. Kath Giles was the person behind development of this app. She is commonly known as Dr. K and realized that more people needed to know about the breast cancer and she thought iPhone app may be a way to go.
- women to become more aware of their breast
- unique interactive tools like questionnaire to help identify any changes in women’s breasts
- important information on what to do if a change is found
- gives reminders so that women can check breast health on regular basis
- requires operating system iOS 4 or above
K acknowledged that “With the busy lives that we lead today, it’s easy to forget what you felt or saw the last time you checked your breasts. It’s also well-known that early detection of breast changes gives women the best opportunity for successful treatment if the changes are related to breast cancer.”
Dr K’s Breast Checker iPhone application is available for download from iTunes for US$1.99. The responsibility of knowing your health condition related to breast cancer lies in your hand. If you are tech savvy, use iPhone app to regularly check health of your breast; and contact your doctor if you find anything unusual.
