FDA warns against instant coffee aphrodisiac

Coffee is one of the most popular hot drinks around the world.  It has been subject of research and has been attributed to be beneficial to fight several diseases.  Some internet sites are selling Magic Powder Coffee, an instant coffee, marketed as sexual aphrodisiac.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urged consumers to stop consuming this magic coffee powder as it poses risk to lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.

Why Magic Powder Coffee can lower blood pressure?
FDA acknowledged that Magic Powder Coffee contains certain chemical compounds than can interact with certain prescription drugs and lower your blood pressure.  As a result of lower blood pressure, consumer can experience, dizziness or lightheadedness as blood supply to brain is reduced.

Is magic coffee powder sold as drug?
Deborah M. Autor, director of FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Office of Compliance said that the Magic Powder Coffee is sold as dietary supplement and hence gives consumer a false alarm that it...

is beneficial for the body.  Although FDA has not found any cases of adverse health events from Magic Powder Coffee, but Autor said that the Magic Powder Coffee can cause serious health issues.

I would put the health and safety first and go with the suggestion given by FDA to stop consumption of Magic Powder Coffee.  If you are interested in the product, you may ask the company selling the product if they have any clinical data regarding this Magic Powder or ask your physician before you decide to consume it.  Sexual health is important for you, but be very careful before you decide to take a pill due to short term and long term health repercussions.
