Sherri McGarry, foodborne outbreak coordinator with the emergency coordination and response staff at FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition said that “We see this as a related recall.” Basically the first recall was due to salmonella enteritidis and FDA indicated that genetic fingerprints of the salmonella were similar in both recalls. It is yet to be determined, if the strains of the bacteria are genetically identical, said Jeff Farrar, associate commissioner for food protection with FDA’s Office of Foods.
