Is EU ban of Ayurvedic medicine justified?

I am sure you guys are familiar with Ayurvedic medicine.  It is basically a system of traditional medicine native to India and practiced in other parts of the world as a form of alternative medicine.  European Union has introduced a directive that bans sale of Ayurvedic medicine from May 1.

The directive that is effective from May 1 states that Ayurvedic and other herbal medicines will need to be licensed under EU directive passed in 2004.  The products marketed before 2004 can continue to market till April 30, 2011.

The resistance for this EU directive has come from users and promoters of Ayurvedic medicines and referred Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive, 2004/24/EC from EU as “discriminatory and disproportionate”.

Ayurvedic medicine has been in practice from ages.  The news does not give the basis...

for EU directive, whether it was triggered by any adverse event or just a mandate put forth by EU.  Does this directive mean that Ayurvedic medicines have to go under clinical trials like drugs developed by pharmaceutical companies? What do you think about the EU directive, voice your opinion in our comment section.

  2. This EU directive has nothing to do with the dangers of alternative healthcare. If they look at the figures, anyone can see that allopathic medicine is the major cause of death in the U.S. and Australia, and maybe elsewhere. In comparison, alternative medicine has proven to be much safer, and judging from the massive growth in this branch of medicine, people have found it more effective.

So what is behind this EU threat? Years of intensive lobbying and doctor-bribing by big Pharmaceutical companies.

They’ve already destroyed health care in the U.S., making it more dangerous than beneficial and outrageously expensive. Despite their well-known dirty tactics, they are gaining control of Australian health care as well. Next is Europe’s health care system.

This EU directive has nothing to do with health care. It is big business; trillions of dollars in additional profits are at stake, and the Pharmaceuticals (with their investors in government and health care) will do anything to get them.

    Shame on you, EU!
