iTraycer – iPhone app to track medical devices


Food and Drug Administration has increased regulation on pharmaceutical and medical device companies.  This increased scrutiny has lead to to and has potential for recalls. Also, majority of medical device companies do not have validated tracking controls with tracking control on a global basis, which is one of the reasons for increasing class action law suits.  iTraycer was recently announced iPhone/iPad app to help hospitals and clinics track medical devices and other products on hand. 

iTraycer was developed by Medical Tracking Solutions, a Jacksonville, Fla.-based firm and is said to provide on-the-go mobility with a simple, easy-to-use interface. The good thing about iTraycer is that it works on all medical products regardless of conditions, including sterilization environments, and tray, device and biologic-level management. 

The main features of iTraycer include:

  • Enter lot numbers automatically via gold standard EDI, or manually with a companion Barcode or RFID Reader.
  • Provides automatic FDA and device expiration alerts; a Case Scheduler; Loaner Manager; Case Manager; Revenue Tracker and Shipment Tracking.

    hospitals, manufacturers, reps, and surgeons a fast accurate efficient solution to log/track and search for LOT and Part numbers within seconds.
  • Using the phone’s built-in GPS technology, the system can even tag deliveries with precise location and time stamps.
  • Android and Blackberry versions of the app are currently under development. 


iTraycer looks like a technology that has potential to become popular in medical device industry and provides means to improve patient care.
