Michael Douglas discusses his throat cancer with Letterman

Hollywood star Michael Douglas, 65 years of age, was detected with throat cancer about two weeks ago.  Douglas made appearance at CBS news last night and interviewed with David Letterman to promote his up coming movie “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.”  Douglas acknowledged that he has started treatment of stage 4 throat cancer.

If you would like to see the interview with Letterman, here it is:

Letterman – about the severity of his condition — a Stage 4 cancer is defined as one that has spread to other parts of the body

Douglas – The big thing you’re always worried about is it spreading, so I am head and neck. I am above the neck, so nothing’s gone down, and the expectations are good. He had completed the first week of an eight-week chemotherapy regimen.

Letterman – Do you smoke?

Douglas said he smoked and drank, adding, “This particular type of cancer is caused by alcohol and drinking.”

Letterman –...

What are chances for recovery?

Douglas replied: The percentages are very good. I would hate to say, but right now it looks like it should be 80 percent, and with certain hospitals and everything, it does improve.

Michael Douglas seems positive of his recovery and he should be.  The underlining fact is that smoking and drinking increase chances for throat cancer and if you are the one that are addicted to smoking and drinking, you should consider quitting.
