Ultrasound-based diagnostic imaging technique used for visualizing subcutaneous body structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs for possible pathology or lesions. Obstetric sonography is commonly used during pregnancy and is widely recognized by the public. MobiSante show cased its mobile based ultrasound device in Mobile Health Expo in late 2010. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved its ultrasound gadget named MobiUS SP1.

Ultrasound Machine
An ultrasound machine is a medical equipment that uses probes that go either in the body or on the surface, and in the case of pregnancy, is used to get a clear picture of the fetus and its development in the womb. The frequencies used in diagnostic ultrasound typically between 2 and 18 MHz.

Smartphone-based ultrasound imaging system
MobiSante has launched smartphone-based ultrasound imaging system, MobiUS™ SP1. It has been cleared by the FDA, brings ultrasound imaging within reach of health care professionals everywhere at reduce costs.

It works on Windows Mobile 6.5-based Toshiba TG01 smartphone. Smartphone’s cellular and Wi-Fi connections can be used for sending images for consultation or storage in the PACS system, making it easy to keep a record of all images for...

reimbursements as well as benchmarking.

Other benefits

  • A rural OB/GYN can confirm pregnancy and detect common complications without sending patients to the centers.
  • GP can look for gall bladder, kidney stones and aneurysms while they are conducting regular physical exams of their patients.
  • Qualified Emergency Responders can use such devices to do simple diagnosis at the site of an accident.

Enhanced access to ultrasound imaging may create a bigger demand for the expertise of Radiologists back at the main healthcare center, reducing costs by enabling earlier and faster diagnosis. The recent trend has been development of handheld ultrasound machines by Giants like Philips, Toshiba, Siemens, etc to capture rural market of developing countries like India and China.  Device developed by MobiSante falls in the same realm and shows promise to be used as basic diagnostic tool at low cost.

I am a doctor trained to use U/S but was never capable to do U/S for myself to follow my case. Now we can diagnose case immediately and referral will be to the direct exact correct place.
