Thailand pioneered the use of condom in Asian countries by its campaign “weapon of mass protection.” Philippines has started a program, wherein, it is publically distributing condoms for free on Valentine’s Day. The condoms are great tool for safer sex and to avoid sexually transmitted disease. The free condom distribution campaign is backed by the punch line “Love yourself. Love your partner. Be safe.”
The free condoms will be distributed at NEPA Q Mart along EDSA in Quezon City in the morning. An initiative was set forth by Department of Health (DOH) under then-Secretary Esperanza Cabral, where in free distribution of condom was started to promote the proposed law on reproductive health (RH). This was initiated owing to large number of increasing HIV cases in Philippines. This is yet another attempt to inform people on reproductive rights and secure support for the passage of the reproductive health bill.
This year, DOH is...
not distributing free condoms on the Valentine’s day, but Akbayan partylist Rep. Kaka Bag-ao said if the health department will not do it, then her group will carry it out.
Valentine’s Day has gained a lot of popularity in the Asian countries as suppose to decades ago, it used to be a popular day in the west. As they say, better to be safe than sorry. Take your free condom and enjoy your Valentine’s Day!
Healthy Valentine’s Day!
