Serena Williams does not need any introduction; she is one of the top tennis players. Serena was winner of Australian Open and Wimbledon singles title this year which made her winner of total 13 grand slams, including three U.S. Opens. It has come to disappointment of many tennis fans that Serena Williams will not be able to participate in U.S. Open due to her foot injury.
She underwent surgery on her cut right foot and her doctor advised her to pull out of U.S. Opens as she has not fully recovered yet. Williams’ doctors advised her against playing at the tournament, which begins August 30. She has been recovering from recent surgery on her cut right foot.
Williams released a press statement yesterday, saying that “Playing in front of the electric crowd of New York at the U.S. Open and competing against the best female athletes in the world is always a highlight, and I look forward to getting back on the court as quickly as possible.”
Williams also quoted that “I take great pride in playing the Grand Slam tournaments and have not missed one since 2006. Not being able to be part of this year’s U.S. Open is one of the most devastating moments of my career.”
is not the only one who is injured though. Kim Clijsters, another top player has suffered a blow in her preparations to defend her title at Flushing Meadows. Clijsters, who is a Belgium player experienced a hip injury and had to go through an examination to determine the severity of the problem.
Clijsters told WTA Tour website that “It gradually got tighter and tighter. I was still able to move and hit the ball, so I don’t believe in giving up. I’ll take a few days, a lot of treatment, stretches and make sure it’s all relaxed.”
It is disappointing that Serena will not be able to play in U.S. Open; we hope that Kim Clijsters injury is not severe and we look forward to seeing him playing in U.S. Open, which begins on Aug 30.
