Simply gulp two glass of water before meal to shed weight

Water is the most essential element of human life. It is a prerequisite for human health and well being to maintain a healthy body, a clear mind, and a good balance within the tissues.  It is recommended to drink water, at least eight 8 ounces glasses per day.  A recent study presented on Monday at the 2010 annual meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston claims that gulping two glasses of water before each meal can help you reduce weight significantly. Just water, yes! Now you have a safe option that costs nothing and has positive results compared to expensive pills that may cause several side effects.

About the study
The study was the first randomized controlled trial to examine the benefits of “preloading” with water before meals and led by Brenda Davy, Ph.D., and an associate professor of nutrition at Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg. Researchers recruited 48 overweight or obese men and women between the ages of 55 and 75, who were on a low-calorie diet (1,200 calories per day for women and 1,500 calories per day for men) and divided them into two groups. One group was asked to drink 2 glasses of water before every meal, however, others were told not to drink. The participants were observed after 3 weeks and 12 weeks.

The results found that drinking water not only helps shedding off pounds, but also retains weight loss.

After three months,

  • Participants who drank water before every meal had lost an average of about 15.5 pounds, compared with just 11 pounds in the other group

After twelve months,

  • Those who drank water had lost additional 1.5 pounds, on average. In contrast other group who didn’t drink water before meal gained about 2 pounds

The first results of the study were published earlier this year in the journal Obesity.

Researchers were not sure why drinking water before meals helps with weight loss.  I think reason is pretty simple-drinking two glasses of water will give you a feeling of fullness and eventually you will eat less.  In any event water is the safe remedy to shed off extra pounds.   It can be started anytime and right from your kitchen.
