Withings to launch World’s first iPhone blood pressure monitor

High blood pressure can put people at risk for heart disease and stroke. High blood pressure is the first and third leading causes of death in the United States according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  People of all ages and backgrounds can develop high blood pressure, however, routinely measurement of blood pressure can help prevent the unforeseen complications.  Recently French health accessories manufacturer has launched World’s first blood pressure monitor that works together with an iPhone / iPad / iPod touch.

Withings unveiled the revolutionary blood pressure monitor at Consumer Electronic Show 2011 in Las Vegas this week. Withings aims that new blood pressure monitor will be helpful for users worldwide to monitor and update details about their blood pressure anywhere and anytime.

“In the near feature, 30 percent of Americans will have to follow their blood pressure, so we think we have a big audience,” said Eric Carreel, WiThings’ chairman.

Until now, people have been measuring blood pressure by using traditional and complex devices that needed multiple manipulations, mathematical operations and data recording procedures. Withings blood pressure monitor provide a unique way to self monitor the blood pressure. Self-measurement has been recommended by the medical profession for many years.

Pressure monitor will cost consumers 129 euros or $129 US. An iOS app required for the system will be availed freely via Apple App Store.

Directions to use the Withings Blood Pressure Monitor:

  • Connect the cuff to the iPhone; Simply slide on and tighten the armband around the arm above the elbow, then touch the start button on the iPhone to begin.
  • The Withings Blood Pressure Monitor automatically averages measurements to produce significant results.
  • Simply flip the iPhone to access measurement history and averages.
  • For later retrieval, simply access your secure online space at withings.com or launch the Withings application on your iPhone/iPad/iPod.
